Launching the Clare County Outdoor Recreation Plan 2025–2030
The first Clare County Outdoor Recreation Plan 2025–2030 was officially launched by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, at the opening of Lahinch Playground. A stakeholder reception event brought together representatives from local and national agencies, community groups, outdoor recreation providers, clubs, and partner organisations to celebrate the publication of Clare’s first County Outdoor Recreation Plan.
Developed by the Clare County Outdoor Recreation Committee, the five-year strategic plan provides a coordinated framework for the sustainable development, management, and promotion of outdoor recreation across County Clare. The Plan sets out a shared vision to increase participation, enhance outdoor recreation opportunities, support inclusive access, strengthen collaboration, and protect Clare’s unique natural landscapes.
3 Key Pillars
The Plan is built around three key pillars. The first is Collaborate, Lead, Respect and Inform, recognising that partnership and shared responsibility are essential to developing outdoor recreation in a sustainable way. The second, Encourage the Experience, is about creating more opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the outdoors and experience the many benefits it brings. The third, Manage Capacity, focuses on ensuring that as participation grows, our landscapes, facilities and communities are supported so that outdoor recreation can continue to thrive while protecting the places that make Clare so special.
Ultimately, this Plan provides a roadmap for the future. It gives us a shared vision and a framework for continued collaboration, helping us build on the excellent work already happening across the county and creating many more examples of best practice in the years ahead.
