Safeguarding
Our safeguarding courses continue to take place each month with our next one with availability being April 22nd. These are delivered via Zoom and are classified as face-to-face courses. Each course is 3 hours long and take place from 6pm-9pm in the evening. It is of utmost importance that all club coaches hold a valid safeguarding qualification. We also offer safeguarding 2 and safeguarding 3 courses designed for child protection officer and designated liaison persons respectively.
We are running a safeguarding 3 course for designated liaison persons on April 2nd with spaces still available.
If you have any questions re safeguarding please get in touch.
Season Of Respect
The Season of Respect campaign aims to help raise awareness and tackle the ongoing problem of abuse towards referees and officials in County Clare.
It has become apparent on both a national and local level, that the volume of abuse towards officials and referees, across all sports and age grades, is extremely concerning. There is a crucial requirement to improve the levels of respect owed to such critical stakeholders of sport in County Clare.
Clubs are asked to have 3 members of the club (i.e. club executive, adult player or head coach and children’s officer or coaching/ development officer) available to attend the information session. This is a 90 minute zoom call and all 3 people do not have to attend the same meeting, they can join on different dates. Upon completion of the level 1 course your club will receive a Season of Respect banner and 2 promotional poster boards.
We would like to say a massive congratulations to our new level 1 clubs which took part in our last Season of Respect Workshops: Moneypoint FC, Kilkee Bealaha Hurling and Camogie Club, St Senans RFC and Crusheen Camogie Club.
If you would like your club to attend the next course please get in touch.
Women In Sport
This week we are launching our new Women In Sport Programme, Try Soccer. Ennis Dons FC, Hermitage FC and Moneypoint FC have joined the initiative, with their programmes kicking off this week. The ladies will take part in 4 or 5 week programme with the different clubs and will hopefully come together in May to have a social blitz day. We are actively seeking more clubs to come on board with this initiative. Programmes like this encourage women to get active while also helping clubs grow sustainably by welcoming new, engaged members.
We are also teaming up with Shannon Paddlers to run an introduction to kayaking programme for ladies this April. The 5 week programme will take place every Thursday from 6.30pm-9pm starting from April 24th.
We are hoping to partner with clubs throughout the spring/summer to run women in sport taster sessions and events, along with taster sessions and events for teen girls. Any clubs who would be interested in running programme please let me know.
Outdoor Recreation Plan
The draft County Outdoor Recreation Plan for Clare is now open for Public consultation until April 11th. Please read it and give your feedback by clicking the button below.
Outdoor Recreation includes physical activities in the natural environment, such as walking, canoeing, cycling, surfing and wild swimming. It does not include activities that take place on pitches or course (golf, football) or motorised sports such as quads/scramblers.
An ongoing consultation process both local and national with the landowners, organisations, communities and participants in the outdoor recreation sector is informing this Outdoor Recreation Plan.
Active Clubs
In our active clubs section this month we are shining a spotlight on some clubs who have taken positive steps to increase physical activity and active participation within their communities.
The Shannon Gaels couch to 5k programme is well underway now with numbers increasing each week. The 10 week programme will finish in mid April where all participants will be invited to join the local Kilrush Parkrun as a final event.
The Clare Sports Partnership Banner Marathon is kickstarting this April. Walk, jog, run or push a distance of your choice – half marathon, full marathon or up to three marathons. Your activities can take place in your own time, anywhere worldwide and all your distances will be added up using Strava, in the pursuit of your target distance.
