We had a fantastic day with Kayak Le Chéile in Scoil Chríost Rí for the first ever kayaking and stand up paddle (SUP) boarding regatta.
Students and teachers from the school competed in a number of different races on the River Fergus, located behind the school, on Tuesday June 11th.
There was also an inclusive pedalo on the water throughout the day. This was kindly donated to Kayak Le Chéile by Cllr Mary Howard.
The winners of each category where presented with a medal once they came off the water.
There were several different race categories including:
- single kayak
- double kayak
- single stand up paddle board
- double stand up paddle board
We also set up our 6 ergs on the school grounds on the day to give students and teachers the opportunity to experience machine rowing.
Students and teachers learned proper rowing technique and even competed in some individual and teams relay’s on the day.
So many children have got the opportunity to go out on the water, develop a new appreciation of the outdoors of water sports and so on like that. It has been tremendous.
